What is the copyright law regarding DVD rentals...?
Basically in college we have come up with a business idea to rent our classes dvd's to other students, but the problem is that some of the dvd's that we own have got "This dvd is not for rental" on the disc and on the case. So would this be breaking any copyright law? if so is their any way of working around it. if anyone knows anything then i'll really appreciate it thx.

- I think you need a license to rent DVD's.
- The reason why they say on the disc "It is illegal to rent this disc" is because.....wait for it...........it's illegal to rent the disc. Could it be plainer? However your chances of getting caught are very slim....
- thats a total no no sorry
- You will need a licence from the distributor to rent out DVD`s
- You pay a different rate to purchase rental videos and the copyright of leasing is passed to you. All domestic videos have a licence for only home viewing, you are not even supposed to lend or even sell it, like at a car boot. It is in effect an offence to sell collections, odd ones, oh yes, lots of people ARE breaking the law. So for example is having a showing of a rental video, so when the local knick rent a video for stand by coppers to watch whilst waiting to go on a job are breaking the law...
