DVD rentals?

I work in a residential college where we have a shop open to students only, there has been comments from them and staff that they would like the shop to provide DVD rental, does anyone have any idea where i start with this, i have tried searching on the internet and get very little information. I need to know about the law and the rules and regulations involved with the rental business. It will only be to our students and not the public, but i am aware that i need to meet all regulations to do with copyright and playing illegal DVDs

Public Comments

  1. contact your local video shop and ask them how to go about it, your local citizens advice bureau might be able to help you
  2. Try www.lurgo.com
  3. here's a link to them on ebay business.
  4. You don't need any special licenses to rent movies, at least in the USA. If you purchase dvd movies, then you can lend or rent them. Usually the movie studios have arrangements with big outfits to offer dvd movies to rent before they can be purchased, so you would not be able to carry the 'newest' items. All businesses have to comply with local government zoning and tax requirements, which you should know from running your shop. Illegal DVD's? you want to rent out downloads, and pirated burns?? Then you have real legal issues, there is no special exemption in doing this service for students or at schools. Any attempt to download movies on our campus will send the IT people knocking on your dorm door as they monitor network traffic.
