  1. i beleive Netflix began the service in 2003. Blockbust began a little later, about 2004/5
  2. Netflix started in 1998 with a pay-per-video model, but switched to a monthly service in 1999. Blockbuster started their similar service in August of 2004 to compete with Netflix.
